Sew The Distance ran its second annual “Christmas Quilting in July” series from July 1 through July 25, publishing a new holiday project or tip each day to help quilters get ahead of the season. Missouri Star Quilt Co. held a parallel event, Jingle in July, and followed it on July 15 with a roundup of the year’s top 12 Christmas fabric collections — evidence that, even with July over, the 2026 holiday fabric conversation is still in full swing in August.

Why July Is When the Best Prints Ship

Both retailers point to the same reasoning: July is when quilt shops stock their new festive fabric lines, and shopping early means better selection before popular prints sell out. This year’s collections lean into traditional red, green, white, and cream palettes alongside some fresh accents — Missouri Star notes that lines like Anna Maria Parry’s Cozy Christmas and Benartex’s Holly & Hearth are mixing in blush pink and turquoise without losing what it calls the “cozy, nostalgic warmth” of a classic holiday quilt.

Beat the December Scramble

The case for starting now isn’t just about fabric selection. Sew The Distance’s Kris O’Neill built her entire July series around the idea that finishing gifts early means actually enjoying December instead of, as she put it, “finishing a binding at midnight on Christmas Eve.” Missouri Star’s guide echoes the same logic, pointing quilters toward precut bundles specifically because they cut the guesswork — and the cutting time — out of coordinating a holiday palette from scratch.
